Community Leadership Program Alumni 30th Anniversary Program

CLP Alumni: Humanize My Hoodie Ally Experience

Saturday, January 9, 2021 (8:00 AM - 11:00 AM) (CST)

Description

Learn how to become a better ally so you can be a better leader, colleague, friend, and community member. We are partnering with the Humanize My Hoodie Movement to provide you with a customized, facilitated online workshop experience. Participants will gain valuable knowledge to reduce threat perception, identify microaggressions, debunk myths of Black criminality, understand allyship, and strengthen skills to address barriers faced by youth and adults who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color).

Humanize My Hoodie was co-founded by CLP Class of 2015-2016 alumnus Andre Wright, with a mission to debunk stereotypes by designing revolutionary, fashion activism and educational campaigns for Black and Indigenous People of Color to be HUMANIZED, not criminalized.

This 3-hour workshop will be facilitated by Seema Pothini, Director of Ally Management with HMH. The workshop includes a video, live presentations, and small group discussions. After the session, participants will receive a discount on ally hoodies from Humanize My Hoodie.

Why are we hosting this event on a Saturday at 8:00 am?

This workshop will ask for deep personal reflection and introspection. We felt that keeping this event out of your work week will allow you the space needed to get the maximum benefits, free from the distractions of the office. And since it is so early, you will still have the majority of your day to enjoy your weekend!

This event is made possible by the support of our CLP Alumni Programming sponsors, with additional support from the City of Iowa City.
